Color Guard is a high energy group of dancers that use props to help in their interpretation of music through Choreography. During the fall, Color Guard works in conjunction with Marching Band to provide exciting half time Field Shows. We provide school spirit performing at home varsity football games at half-time or when the game has ended. During the winter and spring, we operate as Winter Guard – a stand - alone indoor competitive team.
Does Color Guard take place during regular class hours?
Yes. Color Guard meets 5 days a week during 6th period. Students receive either P.E. Credit or Elective Credit for their participation in this sport. Regular practices after school are also a required part of this class.
What is the time Commitment for Color Guard/Winter Guard?
Attendance in our school’s mandatory Summer Marching Corps Practices is usually the 3rd week of August, Monday - Friday, from 9 AM - 4 PM. Once the school year begins, in addition to 6th period class, they will have practices from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and attendance at all Varsity football games, home and away. The first week of December the team switches into Winter Guard mode. Here they will continue their 6th Period class and after school practices to be determined through the end of winter guard season in April. In addition, we have 1-2 performances on campus, usually in conjunction with the Concert Band Concerts in the late winter and late spring to perform for family, community and school members.
What Fees are associated with CG/WG?
The fee for Color Guard Practice in June is approximately $_____ Color Guard team members pay the same price as Marching Band Members for their Fall Season - which covers the cost of school Band Practice in August, group activities for fun and team building, Specialized Walk on Coaches that are not covered by school staffing, and many other items provided by the music booster club. Uniforms (informal/warm-ups) and equipment are an additional $15-$175 depending on what is needed. In addition, ALL students in any sport or activity are requested to pay a “Participation Donation” to help defray the cost of transportation to events. Students who elect to continue on to compete as Winter Guard will be asked for similar fees (Approximately $850) again to cover the cost of extra coaching, uniforms and equipment (Just as the Marching Band members who opt to compete in Winter Percussion need to pay those fees as well).
Can my Child participate in another sport or activity and CG/WG as well?
Yes – as long as there is not a direct conflict. Football players cannot also participate in marching Band/Color Guard for example.
